Our last stop was perhaps my favorite. The guide had been talking about going to see something called a “stepwell” which didn’t sound very interesting and after all I’ve seen a well before. But not like this one!
Built in 1050, the stepwell, called Rani-Ki-Vav Patan, was designed for three purposes: to preserve rainwater, to create a place for people to relax, and for rituals. I was totally unprepared for the beauty of the carvings we would see and gradual unfolding of the place as you descend the rather steep staircase. A highly recommended stop!
